Last weekend, the Bozeman Stingers headed south to Jackson Hole, WY to face off in their inaugural BDHL games versus the Jackson Hole Moose hockey club. Despite a few last-minute roster changes, the Stingers showed up with a solid four lines & came ready to play.
The programs first ever BDHL game proved to be a doozy. Both teams came out flyin' in front of the rowdy crowd of well over 2000+ fans. By the end of a physical first period, the Stingers were up 1-0 after a goal by rookie Logan Henne (Fairbanks, AK). The second period tilted the Stingers' way and things kept rolling. At the close of the period the Stingers were up 4-1 behind two goals from Captain Justin Cook (Hamilton, NY) and one from hometown hero/local legend Russ Dissly (Bozeman, MT). The third period saw the Moose pick things up & claw back into the game to make it 4-3. As the final seconds ticked down, a flurry of action ensued in front of the Stingers net and the Moose came close to tying it up on multiple occasions. However, goalie Taylor D'Agostino (Bozeman, MT) stood tall and shut the door on the many close chances. As the horn blew, a 5 man scrum ensued to cap off the action-packed night & the Stingers emerged with their first win in their first ever BDHL game. On top of that, this marked the first victory for the Stingers in Jackson Hole in the last 5+ years. Goalie Taylor D'Agostino took home the yellow blazer as "Player of the Game" & also locked up the league-wide "Goalie of the Week" award with his performance.
After a night full of nothing but rest & relaxation, the Stingers came out for Saturday's game a little sluggish, like a wet sponge (bonus points if you know that movie reference). The boys played hard in what proved to be a another very physical game. Despite a solid performance in net by rookie Eric Powell (Ashburn, VA), the Moose went up early & never looked back. When the final horn blew, the Moose grabbed the win by a score of 8-4. Stinger goals came from Chase D'Agostino (Bozeman, MT), Kody Wickham (Airdrie, AB- CAN), Matt Douglas (Great Falls, MT), & Ben Henne (Fairbanks, AK). Chase D'Agostino won the yellow blazer as "Player of the Game" with his one goal & a few huge hits.
After the game, the team shrugged off the loss & celebrated a successful weekend by taking to downtown Jackson. There's an unconfirmed rumor going around that someone wearing the yellow blazer was seen break-dance fighting in the wee hours of the morning. Those D'Agostino's- so hot right now...
