The 2014-2015 season opened with two wins for the Bozeman Stingers Hockey Club. Friday night's action saw the team come out a little sluggish & the Montana State University Bobcats were able to capitalize early going up 3-1 by the end of the first period. However, the cats weren't up for long as the Stingers found their stride midway through the second period. After exchanging a flurry of goals, the Stingers took control of the game by the end of the second period. As the final horn blew, the Stingers emerged victorious with the 8-5 win. Newcomer Logan Henne lead the way with a handful of goals & assists earning the right to wear the coveted yellow blazer as "Player of the Game".
Saturday's rematch proved much of the same, as the Stingers got off to a slow start & saw themselves behind by a few goals early. The team got a short-lived boost when Chase D'Agostino delivered a crushing open-ice hit, but it was all for not as the infamous "too hard of a hit" 10 minute misconduct sent him to the box to "feel shame". This continued as soon as Chase served his time, as he went straight back in for another 10 minutes after another huge hit. When the dust settled, Chase racked up 24 minutes in penalties during his three shifts. Way to go, Chase.
Luckily, another D'Agostino brother was able to provide the spark the Stingers needed to get back in the game. The line of Ryan D'Agostino, Elkins, Picicci went to work killing penalties & pumping in goals. Rookie Alex Picicci locked up the yellow blazer with the hat trick, all fed by Ryan D'Agostino, and secured the 6-4 victory in what proved to be a penalty-heavy contest.
The Bozeman Stingers have this weekend off but travel to Jackson Hole, WY November 21 & 22 for their inaugural Black Diamond Hockey League games. The Jackson Hole Moose are already 2-0 in the BDHL after sweeping Park City, so it is sure to be a tough match-up.
Looking forward to the first hockey road trip of the season!
